I have insurance through the state. It is priority partners. Does anyone know what doctors take this insurance? And out of those, who do you recommend? Thanks for your help.

Can't say anything about the insurance - all I can recommend is calling your insurance company and getting a list of approved providers as well as a list of pre-surgical requirements.

I used Upper Chesapeake Bariatric Surgeons - Dr. Stephen McKenna - amazing, and I truly owe him my life.  But I also went to the a few seminars before I settled on a surgeon - you really have to get a feel for which surgeon is right for you as well as which program fits your needs by attending the seminars.

It really depends on your connection with the surgeon. I doubt anybody here will say they don't like their surgeon. Most of us attended more than one seminar and then decided who to go with. I have a friend who had Dr. Roe and so did her mom, and I went to his seminar on her recommendation. I loved him right away and his office staff was phenomenal.

I'm sure your insurance has an online search or even their 1-800 number should be able to tell you who's covered.

Even beyond just the coverage, I'd say find seminars by different doctors, at different hospitals, even different types of surgeries if you haven't decided yet; it'll help you make the decision.

With PP you have to call them and ask them to give you the names of the doctors that would accept your insurance in your state.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
Those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind.

Why will it take so long?

PP requires a 6 month supervised diet and then once all your forms have been submitted, it can take up to 6 weeks for a decision. After you have the approval, its just a matter of the surgeon fitting you into his or her schedule.
So if you look at the pre-op time, with PP you know it will be 6 months, and then factoring in a surgery date, well..... you are looking at at least 7/8 months total time.
I was lucky....I got my approval in 4 days....that was in april & I had surgery June 26th.
